Rune Info - Guild Wars Forums

I thought I found a rune once but now I'm not sure and wonder if I destroyed it by accident.

Can someone tell me what a rune looks like? Or how I know I have a rune?

I know how to apply it (same way as dye correct?), but I'm unsure about the rest.

This got buried 5 pages back so I'm bumping it.

I was thinking and was wondering if someone can please post a screen shot of a "rune"when it drops prior to (identify/salvage) and then again after? That way I know what the heck I'm looking at.

Runes look like this - http://www.guildwarsguru.com/rune-listing-id29.php

They don't look like anything when they drop, because they will be embedded in a piece of armor from an enemy, usually marked as "unidentified". When you identify it you may get lucky and see a rune inside. There will be a little popup in the center of your screen saying "Item Unlocked". Then when you Expert Salvage this item, you stand a good chance (although it does fail from time to time) of salvaging the rune from the armor. You will them see the icon as displayed in the link provided.
